My presentation
Each pupil learned to say their own presentation.
”My name is ____”
”I am ____ years old”
“I live in ____”
-    Teacher writes the presentation on the board and repeats it with the pupils.
-    The pupils copy from the board.
-    The pupils practice their presentations in pairs.
-    Each pupil tell their presentation to the class.
Fruits/Vegetables
Each pupil learned the names of several fruits and vegetables and the use of ”I like” and “I don’t like”
Banana, groundnuts, apple, pumpkin, cucumber, potato, watermelon, onion,  orange, tomato,.
“I like ____”
“I don’t like ____”
-    Teacher draws pictures of the fruits and vegetables with their names on the board.
-    Pupils copy from the board.
-    Teacher write the sentences “I like ___” and “I don’t like ___” on the board explaining them using L and J
-    Pupils practice and write down the sentences putting in fruits/vegetables.
Clothes
Each pupil learned the names of several pieces of cloth and how to use it in sentences. We also used the colours in describing the cloth and focused on the use of ‘a’ in singular form and –s in plural form.
Dress, skirt, shirt, hat, scarf, trousers, boots, gloves, sandals, top, socks, shoes, jersey, jacket.

The colours
-    Teacher draws the clothes and writes their names on the blackboard.
-    Pupils copy from the blackboard.
-    Memory game: Pupils have to match a piece of paper which has a drawing of the cloth with a piece of paper which has the name of the cloth.
-    Practising spellings of the words using the pieces of paper from the memory game and the board.
-    Practising the sentences (given in ‘Words/sentences’) in the class, in pairs and in groups.
Animals
Each pupil learned the names of several animals. They also learned adjectives which were used in describing the animals.
Giraffe, horse, lion, rabbit, cat, dog, squirrel, zebra, whale, bear, kangaroo.

Adjectives: tall, scary, sweet, small, happy, big
“The ____ is ____”
-    Memory game
-    Using the memory game, the names of the animals is introduced to the pupils.
-    Practising the sentences (given in ‘Words/sentences’) on the board, in pairs/groups and writing them.

Subtraction
We continued subtraction from grade 3 with numbers with several digits and practiced borrowing.
As rounding off, we revised addition and subtraction.
-   Teacher gives examples on the board. Some are solved by the pupils.
-   Pupils are given exercises to make. Teacher helps the pupils individually.
-   Pupils are divided into groups according to level and are given different exercises.
Multiplication
We continued multiplication from grade 3 starting with the multiplication tables. We made multiplication charts to put up in the classrooms for the pupils to use solving sums.
-   Teacher and pupils write the tables together on the board (max 2 per lesson).
-   The pupils copy the tables and practice in pairs/groups.
-   BOOM-game: everybody is in a circle and takes turn to count the numbers. Every time you reach a number from a chosen table, you have to say BOOM instead of the number. Fx the 3-table: 1, 2, BOOM, 4, 5, BOOM, 7, 8, BOOM etc.
-   Teacher gives examples on the board. Some are solved by the pupils.
-   Pupils are given exercises to make. Teacher helps the pupils individually.
Revision
We revised addition, subtraction and multiplication before the ‘End of term 1 tests’
-   Teacher gives examples on the board. Some are solved by the pupils.

Activity

Description

Name game
Everybody stands in a circle and takes turn to say their names while making a movement. The rest repeats the name and the movement.
Songs and games
-     The cookie song
-     “I have the ball”
-     “Ten green bottles hanging on the wall …”
Drawing circles
We made flowers with circles using a pair of compasses
Storytelling
Pupils listen to a story while drawing something from the story. After they explain to their fellow students what they draw.
Playing ball

The House
Pupils draw a house and name the parts of the house
Go Fish
Playing ‘Go Fish’ in small groups using playing cards
